David, the sweet psalmist of Israel wrote in Psalm 91:1-2, “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.” The position of the person that walks with God carry’s the great benefit of his protection. Since a dwelling place is the place where we live, spiritually, we live under God’s protection. The Apostle Paul pointed out in Acts 17:28 that “in him we live, and move, and have our being.” Keeping these things in mind along with Solomon telling us to “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all they ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths (Proverbs 3:5-6),” We are under God’s protection as long as we stay in his will. If we trust him for guidance he will also be our refuge (protection or shelter) and our fortress (a military stronghold). The key is to stay in the will of God. You may not like your position in the will of God but there is safety. Your position in the will of God is also the place that he wants to use you. Many times we say that we want to be used of God but we want this on our own terms. The blessing and the place that he has for us will be greater if we allow him to direct our paths. What gets us into trouble is leaning to our own understanding. It is far better to trust in the Lord.
